Mission

Our mission is to empower and educate people about horses by leading them to their full potential through intentional horsemanship, personal development, life skill building, ranch, agriculture management, and community outreach.

Who We Are

We are an educational non-profit that exists to change peoples lives one horse and one rider at a time. We do this through providing young people with an opportunity to intern at a Western Performance Horse Ranch including riding reining, cutting, reined cow, barrel racing, roping, and cowboy dressage.  This program also includes colt starting, problem horses, sales, and how to operate a large-scale ranch.

Future Horseman Foundation

Officially established in 2018 but in operation since 2014 the internship program evolved from something I was doing on the side to an actual needed program, as the kids kept piling in and it was obvious that I was training people as much as horses.

The need for the ranch education and personal development of young people was taking over and something more permanent had to be done. That is when I built a team of amazing people and took a leap of faith and started the Future Horseman Foundation. I truly love the horse industry and any contribution I can make to its future is an honor.

The industry needs more knowledgeable young people that will someday take the reins of our associations and legacy of the horse industry.  Training young people is similar to training horses.  You have to lay a strong foundation, and build skill sets through reputation and confidence building of good experiences.  In our industry this education has traditionally been that a young un-experienced person goes to work for a horse trainer and is thrown into the school of hard knocks.  This is hard on the kids and employees and doesn’t always end well.

The Future Horseman Foundation provides an avenue for young people to learn the ropes before entering the work force. This is better for the employers and employee and reduces the abuse, drama, and chaos.  Remember that the youth are the future of this industry we love, and education and good experiences are a must!

Our Story

The Sliding J Ranch opened in 1977 and has thrived in the Performance horse industry as one of the prominent ranches on the west coast.  The Ranch has a rich history including having the honor of standing past legends like Doc Tom Tucker, Hesa Commander, and Mr. Peponita Flo to name a few.

Originally built by Hall of Fame cutting horse trainer Jack Adams where he ran a very successful cutting horse operation for over 30 years, wife Judy Adams by his side running the breeding operation they took the performance horse industry by storm. In 2001 the Adam’s family passed the reins to Don Bradford, a high tech mogul from the bay area.  Together they transformed the ranch into a state of the art facility and opened it up to multiple trainers.  This is where I came in! Jenny Sherbo bought the ranch from Don Bradford in 2016 after managing the facility for 15 years.

I had the honor of working with the Adam’s family for several of their last years in the performance horse industry.  Together we made a hell of a team with the Adam’s industry wisdom and contacts and Bradford’s business savvy and vision the ranch evolved into a very special place to be shared.

Now owned and ran by the Sherbo family the ranch houses amazing outside trainers, Jenny Sherbo Performance Horses, Trevor Sherbo custom fabrication and welding, and of course the Future Horseman Foundation! God willing the legacy of the Sliding J Ranch will continue on and train our future industry leaders.
